Download the latest Adobe Illustrator for free
1. First Step
- To begin, you should open Adobe Illustrator and create a new document ( new artboard ). The artboard size must be square, so the mandala structure can be centered. It was good to choose the same size for both width and height. ex;- width-600Px and height-600 Px
Let's create the structure for the Mandala
- First, Let's create a circle. To create a circle, go to the shape tool and select circle. Then create a circle in the middle of the artboard by holding Shift + Alt on the keyboard and drag.
You can draw any pattern in this circle. This is the center of the Mandala.
2. Second Step
- Go to the Layers panel on the Right side and select the layer that contains the circle. And rename it as "Solid" as well as in the above picture.
- Then create a new layer and name it as "Repeat".,
On that layer, you should create another circle in which the center is the same as the first circle. To create this I will teach you an easy method.
- Select the first circle and press Shift + C and again Shift + F. This will create another circle on the first circle. Then select the second circle and drag it to resize.
The circle must be filled with no color and the outline should be around 8pt. See the above screenshot
OK, You just finish the structure. Now is the important part. We will divide it into slices - In this case, 8
- To start this, Press Shift + R. It gives you the ruler.
- Then select the left margin of the ruler and drag it to the center of the artboard.
- You can see one line across the artboard as above. Right-click on it and select "Transform → Rotate".
A tab will display on your screen as below.
- Select the Angle which you want. In this case, I will choose 45 degrees because the Mandala has 8 slices.
- Select "copy"
- After that, we can see another line across the artboard. You should Shift + D to repeat the above steps to get 4 lines across the artboard. The finish will become as follows.
- A tab will be displayed on the screen. You should choose the angle and how many copies same as before.
- Click OK
So, The magic will begin now
When we draw any shape in one slice, The other 6 slices will fill automatically with that shape. This method is very useful to Draw this kind of pattern.
I draw a flower petal in one slice. So, The pattern looks like this.
- Note;- This is a simple pattern that I created. You can draw any kind of complex pattern with this method. With the increase of complexity, The Mandala pattern will more attractive.
- You can also add colors
- Finally, you can hide out the unnecessary parts from the layers panel like mentioned in the below picture.
Now the pattern you make is complete.
- If you want to save the art as PNG or JPG like that, Go to "File" in the top left corner. Then choose "Export → Export As" in the drop-down menu as below.
- A tab will display on your screen So that you can save from there.
